🧭 A Guide to Business Architecture Certification

I wasn't always sure about my business skills and what it was that I was doing that I enjoyed so much when turning a business vision a reality.

It was only when I started working on business architectures, over 15 years ago, that I realized there was a unique space where both art đŸ–Œïžand science 🔬 could meet to deliver impactful transformations. And that there was a way to do it that made sense to me.

Building enterprise-grade TOGAF and bespoke startup architectures requires time and discipline, but it also demands imagination and craft. Over the years, so much learning happens “in the flow of work” that people rarely take the time to reflect on and formalize their knowledge 🎓.

Not long ago, I decided to pursue a British Computer Society certification in Business Architecture. During my research, I discovered that there wasn’t much independent guidance available to help aspiring Business Architects and Analysts choose the right learning path đŸ€”.

When I sought feedback on various certifications, I received mixed responses about their value, particularly regarding the lack of ‘real-world’ examples in the training. That feedback aligned to my experience. My most recent insights into AI & Business Architecture have come from Dr. Raj Ramesh, who shares creative and engaging video explainers on his YouTube channel đŸŽ„Â using practical examples.

There’s clearly still a long way to go in improving these certification-based learning experiences. However, the need for guidance and direction on which certification would be most useful remains.

That’s why I decided to create the Business Architecture Certification Guide. It’s a straightforward, no-nonsense summary of the top 3 business architecture certifications available, with some advice on how to choose the one that’s right for you. It’s not a finished product as many of you will know there are other certifications available but it’s a start.

So, if you know anyone looking to advance their career as a Business Analyst or you’re looking to grow your skills, I encourage you to check it out and share it — it might just reveal that unique space in your personal learning journey.
